Reach for the Stars is a premier dance competition in South Africa designed to celebrate the rich tapestry of diverse dance talents. By identifying and nurturing hidden potential, this initiative has the power to dramatically alter the life trajectories of countless young people. Cultivating exceptional artists and facilitating personal growth, healing, and inspiration within participants and audiences alike.
Reach for the Stars is a dynamic collaboration between C-BLOCK and visionary founder Desiree Angus to offer young South Africans, aged 8 to 35, an inclusive platform to express their artistry across any style—be it contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, traditional, or something born entirely of their own heritage and imagination.
Dancers push creative boundaries in a supportive, collaborative environment with other dancers.
Dance becomes a gateway to self-expression, unleashing creativity and passion.
A Safe Space to refine skill, experiment and discover unique artistic expression within yourself.
Dancers develop a strong sense of self preparing them for success both on and off the stage.
Aiming to redefine education—as emotional intelligence, artistic mastery, cultural legacy, and inner awakening. It aligns with the evolving paradigm of alternative education: where talent is intelligence, and expression is knowledge. It recognises that human talent is as diverse and magnificent as the dancers themselves and that through movement, our youth can step into the magic of who they truly are. To stand not just on a stage, but in the fullness of their light. Reach for the Stars is more than a competition. It is a movement.
The Reach for the Stars competition has catapulted into the national spotlight with features on three prominent live TV shows — Cape Town TV’s Homegrown Live, Cape Town TV’s Eksé Live, and the SABC 3 Expresso Morning Show. This broadcast exposure has gained over 1+ million national views, significantly amplifying the competition’s reach, impact, and influence. It created a platform for the dancer’s personal stories showcasing their backgrounds, challenges, and dreams.
