The Sustainability Institute is an NPO that works with children, youth, and adults to inspire and create healthier and happier futures for communities and the planet. We are based in the Lynedoch valley just outside the town of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape, South Africa. Lynedoch is predominantly a farming community, and our programmes reach and impact approximately 200 underserved families within the valley, while increasingly extending into the Vlottenburg and Eerste Rivier communities.
Our Lynedoch Youth Programme, established in 2007, serves youth currently enrolled in high school, as well as youth not in employment, education, or training (NEETS). We have a strong track record in supporting young people to unlock and achieve their potential, having supported over 400 young people in the community since the programme began.

The Youth Programme supports youth to become change agents in their community by unlocking potential in a practical way. In the Lynedoch community, academic struggles, substance abuse and the pressure of seeking a sense of belonging through joining a gang is an ongoing battle for many of the youth, and often results in young people dropping out of high school.
Consisting of both high school and school leaver programmes, this programme supports young people from the Lynedoch Valley to overcome extreme adversities, to self-actualise and to become active citizens shaping positive impacts in their communities.
This programme is aligned to the Trust’s strategic focus on education and work-readiness for youth, through their Youth Programme. This programme is part of the SI’s vision to have a transformative impact on the lives of the children and youth in the Lynedoch Valley through the educational programmes they offer.
